Also Offering Jeuveau
Botox® and Jeuveau are non-surgical, non-invasive injections made of botulinum and incobotulinum toxins, or purified proteins. The injectables target facial wrinkles caused by muscle activity by blocking the signals from the nerve to the muscle. The overlying line or wrinkle becomes less noticeable and the treated skin looks smoother and tighter.
Botox® and Jeuveau Benefits
These wrinkle-relaxing injectables are safe, effective and can be administered during a short office appointment. No downtime is needed after treatment. The results appear within a few weeks and last for months. When administered by a qualified, trained professional like Dr. Jonathan Grant and the team at Cascade Facial Surgery & Aesthetics, the improvements appear very natural.
Candidates for Botox® and Jeuveau
Candidates for Botox® or Jeuveau are troubled by signs of aging on the face such as:
- Frown lines (the “11” lines between the eyebrows)
- Horizontal lines across the forehead
- Crow’s feet
- Smoker’s lines around the mouth
- Lines across the chin
- Downturned corners of the mouth
Comparing the Neurotoxins
Botox® and Jeuveau have the same active ingredient. The three neurotoxins provide similar results and comparable longevity of results.
There are differences in how the products are dosed; what that means is you may need a different number of “units” of Botox® than you would Jeuveau. Also, Botox® was the first neurotoxin to be FDA approved, so it has a longer safety record and has been studied more extensively than the other products.
Dr. Grant and our team are experienced in all three neurotoxins, and can recommend the product most suited to your individual needs and goals.
What To Expect From Botox® and Jeuveau Treatment
The procedure to administer Botox® or Jeuveau generally takes about 15 to 30 minutes and the effects typically last about three to four months. No anesthesia is required.
Dr. Grant and his team treat every patient as a unique individual. Your injector will evaluate your skin and determine the best placement and dosage for your Botox® or Jeuveau injections. The goal is to soften wrinkles without changing your facial contours or making you look frozen or “expressionless.”
The Botox® or Jeuveau will be injected into specific muscles using a very thin needle. Your injector will work meticulously to weaken only wrinkle-producing muscles. The amount of neurotoxin your injector uses will depend on the severity and location of your facial wrinkles as well as your facial features. Most patients receive a few injections per treatment area.
Botox® and Jeuveau Side Effects
Possible Botox® and Jeuveau side effects include the following:
- Bruising and swelling at the injection site
- Facial redness
- Headache
- Nausea
There is a slight risk of the neurotoxin migrating from the injection site to other areas of your face. To prevent this, we ask that you refrain from rubbing or massaging your face for four hours after treatment.
Cost of Botox® or Jeuveau Treatment
The cost of your wrinkle-reducing injectable treatment depends on the specific product you choose and the amount of units you require. For more specific pricing information, please contact our team today.
FAQ About Botox® and Jeuveau
Does treatment hurt?
You will feel a slight pinching and burning feeling. However, this only lasts for seconds. If this is your first injection experience, it is not uncommon to have a slight headache afterwards, which can be remedied by taking Tylenol or ibuprofen.
How can I prepare for my injections?
Our team asks that you avoid taking non-prescription blood-thinning medications, including aspirin and ibuprofen, for several days prior to your appointment to reduce the chance of bruising after treatment. Refrain from drinking alcohol the day of your treatment. You should also plan to skin your exercise routine or any rigorous activity for 24 hours after your injection. Too much exertion within 24 hours after your treatment can lessen the effectiveness of your injections.
What is Botox® and Jeuveau recovery?
No downtime is required after Botox® or Jeuveau injections. Some patients can experience mild swelling and bruising around the injection sites, but these effects resolve in most cases by the next day. It is recommended that strenuous activity and exercise be avoided for 24 hours post-injection to optimize results.
What is the right age to get Botox® or Jeuveau injections?
There is no right age — it is up to you and your facial anatomy and personal preferences. Some of our patients develop noticeable wrinkles that they want treated in their 20s, and others do not see visible lines or creases until their late 30s or 40s.
What should I look for in an injector?
When selecting a provider to administer your injections, be sure to review his or her qualifications. Your injector should be a plastic surgeon, facial plastic surgeon or dermatologist, or a nurse or aesthetician under the supervision of one of these doctors. He or she should have years of experience working with the different types of neurotoxins. Finally, your provider should take the time to listen to you describe your goals and explain exactly what to expect from your treatment.
How long do the results last?
Results last three to four months in most cases.
How long until the effects will be visible?
Botox® & Jeuveau injections can take anywhere from three to 14 days to take full effect.
